In
1996,
National
Engineering
Center
for
Biotechnology
(NECB)
was
established
by
the
Ministry
of
Science
and
Technology
of
China
to
boost
the
industrialization
and
commercialization
of
the
original
biotechnological
achievements.
In
1998,
Shenzhen
branch
of
NECB
(SNECB)
was
established
with
the
cooperation
of
Shenzhen
Municipal
Government.
In
1999,
the
SNECB
was
ratified
as
one
of
national
class
engineering
center
with
Beijing,
Shanghai
and
Nanjing
Branches
after
strict
investigation
of
the
Ministry
of
Science
and
Technology
of
China.
The
goal
of
SNECB
is
to
combine
the
state
key
biotech
researching
achievements
with
the
engineering
technology,
making
it
a
transformation
base
linking
Hongkong,
Macao,
Taiwan
and
southeast
Asia,
for
Shenzhen
and
even
the
country,
and
promoting
the
internationalization
of
our
biotech
industry.
SNECB
received
great
attention
and
support
from
Shenzhen
Municipal
Government
since
its
establishment.
The
deputy
mayor
Yingli
Liu
was
appointed
as
the
chairman
of
SNECB
following
the
former
deputy
mayor
Rongjun
Guo.
And
professor
Fan
Ouyang,
a
distinguished
expert
in
biotechnology,
was
appointed
as
the
director.
It
is
believed
that
the
most
important
things
of
SNECB
was
to
promote
the
development
of
bio-industry
in
Shenzhen,
by
introducing
promising
or
well-developed
scientific
achievements,
making
technical
and
economic
evaluation
and
consulting
and
offering
technical
service
for
the
enterprises.
SNECB

the

High-Tech
Industrial
Park
near
the

Bay,
equipped
with
a
lot
of
advanced
equipments
and
instruments
for
gene
cloning,
bacterial
fermentation,
cell
